# Index Naturae — film credits

**Index Naturae** follows the adult Dodo from research to release, careful making and its place in a larger natural-history catalogue. Revision 31, 20 October 2026. The single film is 54.833333 seconds, 1,316 frames at 24 fps, in landscape and portrait.

## The archive and workshop

The elderly archivist walks through the archive with a research trolley, retrieves a record from a high drawer, studies Dodo skeletal references, lifts a bound book leaf to compare an anatomical plate, compiles the catalogue card and approves release. The card passes to an elderly maker in a blue cotton *Blaumann*, who adjusts the cap fixture, draws a needle clear of an existing halo stitch, and inspects the front portrait and red rear identifier before placement. Both faces remain outside the selected views. The opening restores the centered **INDEX NATURAE** wordmark at the bottom of the picture.

The archive, characters, workshop, books and specimen are imagined brand imagery. They are not documentary footage of an identified museum specimen, manufacturer or historical manuscript. The retained skeletal-study image was informed by the local `dodo-skeleton-darwinmuseum.jpg` reference recorded in the source prompts. Background information appears in the State Darwin Museum's [Museum rarities of Mister X](https://www.darwinmuseum.ru/subprojects/mobile/card.php?id=1728).

Walking and high-drawer retrieval reuse original motion from the earlier Index Naturae source library: `wide-empty-v10.mp4` frames 8–103 and `ladder-retrieval-v11.mp4` frames 0–59, inclusive. They run at native 24 fps. Later head turns and descent are excluded. The retrieved archival source is not presented as the later approved catalogue card.

The retained book-comparison still was created with the built-in OpenAI image generation tool, using the established archive scene and aged hands as references. Its motion was generated through Runway, task `47724d8b-3add-49c5-b689-47ce2fcc3074`, using Gen-4 Turbo without generated audio. The selected action is a controlled leaf lift for comparison; it does not claim a completed page turn. The source's duplicated underlying Dodo illustration is replaced with an anatomical plate, with the moving leaf and fingers kept in front. Later hovering/release footage is excluded.

The replacement paper-placement stills were created with the built-in OpenAI image generation tool. Four-second motion was generated through Runway, task `bf982f43-fe93-408a-bc6d-1a5f3e2fed20`, with fixed start and end images and no generated audio. The first attempted replacement was rejected because it lifted the sheet away. The selected four-second placement retains the physical sheet edge, shadow and hand movement. A stable illustration is tracked to the sheet, and the canonical Dodo card is restored with matching warm paper shading and optical softness. The fingers release the paper and withdraw before the cut.

The hand-finishing movement and corrected card, approval, handoff, inspection and placement selections are retained from [V29](https://index-naturae.store/campaign/film-v29-credits.md). Hand finishing shows a needle being drawn clear of an existing stitch; it does not establish a complete thread pull-through, knot or finished sewn sample. Native source motion is retained without optical-flow interpolation.

**“Das Archiv” / “Wesen bewahren.”** and **“Die Weberei” / “Wesen weitertragen.”** are original Index Naturae wording, not quotations from Heidegger. *Die Weberei* is the workshop's poetic name; the pictured craft is embroidery.

## The object and cabinet

The featured adult Dodo is **IN 1.45.01-A**: black cap, gray-blue portrait, ivory beak and gold halo, with its red **#C41F2D** catalogue identifier on the adjustable rear strap beside the buckle. Canonical edition artwork and identifiers come from the [Index Naturae catalogue](https://index-naturae.store/).

The V31 cabinet uses a constructed three-dimensional scene and a continuous camera move, with deep shelves, revised sewn cap geometry, glass, cabinet framing and fixed catalogue plaques. The revision uses photographic timber maps, joined board surfaces, softer cotton crowns and curved bills, and revised lighting and contact shadows. The sixteen Series I adult/young editions each have their own artwork and red index plaque. Further cabinets contain Series II and III editions. Their order remains **I. Lost Not Forgotten**, **II. Birds of Splendor**, **III. Back from the Brink**. Camera views are composed separately for landscape and portrait. Detailed construction, source identity and visibility evidence accompany the delivery.

The hats are illustrative previews. Their appearance is not a claim about available inventory, a manufactured sample or a validated embroidery program.

Timber surface maps use **[Dark Wood by Poly Haven](https://polyhaven.com/a/dark_wood)**, released under **CC0**: photography by Dimitrios Savva, baking by Dario Barresi and tiling by Rico Cilliers. Local source hashes and material construction details accompany the delivery.

## Sound

The complete **“A small elegy”** cue was generated through Runway on 24 September 2026, task `1d2efe0b-cf90-490e-be34-95e2fbd35f11`. It remains at native pitch and speed from **27.333333 to 54.500688 seconds**. All 27.167354 seconds of the retained cue are sample-identical to V29; no music is looped or stretched.

Quiet room air and paper gestures accompany visible research actions. The revised paper placement has a soft recorded-paper cue beginning at frame 336, **14.000 seconds**, at the first visibly clear contact. The former late cue is removed; every other audio sample remains unchanged. The one dry stamp impact starts at frame 422, **17.583333 seconds**, aligned with the reviewed contact. There is no added stamp-lift slap, footstep track, machinery during hand finishing, voiceover or new sound generation.

Paper sound is **“Page Turn” by IENBA**, [Freesound 656546](https://freesound.org/people/IENBA/sounds/656546/), **CC0 1.0**; the retained MP3 preview is used. The stamp and room bed are retained from the existing production sound library, with earlier provenance in the [V20 credits](https://index-naturae.store/campaign/film-v20-credits.md). Final source and encoded audio measurements are recorded in `audio-validation-v31.json`.

## Delivery and review

The film has a landscape and portrait 1080p master, plus a 720p web export for each. The cabinet is rendered at native 720p and scaled for the 1080p masters; several motion sources are also 720p. Output size does not imply every source was native 1080p. Cormorant Garamond and Courier Prime continue the film's typography. Generation prompts, source selections, repair notes, review evidence and export hashes accompany the files.

The review addresses physical actions, continuity, faceless framing, fixed hat identity, catalogue readability and coherent camera movement. It records the observed faults and their repairs without guaranteeing that every possible generated detail is artifact-free.
