Index Naturae
About the collection
A portrait to wear. A record to keep.
Index Naturae brings animal portraits to embroidered hats, each with a matching natural-history card. The painted collections place those animals in a wider world; the card gives each portrait its own record.
From study to sewn sample
The collection is in development. The hat pages show digitized embroidery studies and earlier illustrative concepts. They are not photographs of finished hats. Sewn samples will establish the fabric colour, stitch coverage, fit and final placement before a release is announced.
Registration lets you follow a design or collection. It does not reserve a hat, place an order or take payment. Prices, production quantities and release dates have not been announced.
Reading the catalogue
- Adult / Young
- Two portraits of the same species, intended for separate hats. These labels describe the animal's life stage, not the wearer's age or hat size.
- Accession code
- A catalogue reference linking a portrait to its natural-history card. For example, IN 1.45.01-A identifies the Adult Dodo record. The suffix A means Adult; J means Young (juvenile). These references are not production serial numbers or quantities.
- Design and edition
- The current catalogue distinguishes portrait designs. A numbered or limited production edition has not been announced; any future edition terms will be stated with the release.
- Gold halo
- The halo marks the extinct species in the Lost Not Forgotten collection.
